DESCRIPTION: Utah law requires county recorders to record, in a book kept for that purpose, all documents, records, and other writings either required or permitted by law (Utah Code, Annotated, 1943, 19-18-3). From 1947 to 1957 the Washington County recorder kept a separate book for miscellaneous records, or records that did not fit into any other organized category. The majority of these documents are: bills of sale, affidavits, including affidavits of identity, death certificates, certificates of redemption, bishop's and president's certificates, and powers of attorney. There are also a few wills, letters, releases of lis pendens, licenses to practice medicine, statements of proof of labor, city ordinances, lien waivers, declarations of homestead, and mining locations declared null and void.
ARRANGEMENT: These documents are arranged chronologically in the order recorded.

Washington County GRANTEE INDEXES, series 82703 and GRANTOR INDEXES, series 82704 also provide reference to many of the documents in these books. POWERS OF ATTORNEY INDEX, series 23685, provides reference to the powers of attorney recorded in these books. Before 1947 miscellaneous documents were recorded with deeds. In particular, they were recorded in DEEDS (SAINT GEORGE), series 23286.
