Series 6222

DESCRIPTION: This notebook contains a list of fire insurance and life insurance companies doing business in Utah. In order to transact business, the agent was to file a statement showing company name, amount of capital, assets and liabilities, agent name, receipts and expenditures, etc. The statement had to be renewed annually. This list apparently represents companies so doing.

Each entry on the list gives the company name, name of agent(s) and the year or years of filing. Sometimes the filing date will be more precise. In one instance, the date of revocation of the certificate of authority is noted.

ARRANGEMENT: Entries are alphabetical by first letter of company name.

RELATED RECORDS: The last section of the INCORPORATION REGISTER, series 378, also notes the name and initial filing date for insurance companies from 1880-1896. The FIRE INSURANCE COMPANIES CERTIFICATE RECORD BOOK, series 379, includes copies of the certificates of authority issued to fire insurance companies from 1884-1888.
