DESCRIPTION: Location notices indexes provide reference to notices of location (mining claims) and other records kept by the Clifton Mining District recorder. In 1894 district recorders began creating indexes referencing multiple books instead of indexing each book separately. These indexes provide only the name of a claim and the book and page number where a document was recorded. Notes about claims filed in 1911-1912 appear underneath the entries for Book N and O.

ARRANGEMENT: Entries in the indexes are grouped alphabetically and listed chronologically thereunder. The second index begins with entries for Books L, LL&P, Q, R, S, T, U, and V. As the pages became full, various letters were carried forward at the back of the book and entries continue for Books U, V, W, X, Y, Z, and AA.

PROCESSING NOTE: . Records for the Clifton Mining District were processed by Rosemary Cundiff in October 2002. Because of the poor quality of the microfilm, Utah State Archives refilmed these books and updated the inventory in May 2003.
