GABEL MINING DISTRICT (UTAH). RECORDER [3123]

RECEPTION BOOK, 1892-1894.
1 microfilm reel

A separate agency history is available.

DESCRIPTION: Gabel Mining District rules and regulations stated that the district recorder should keep a reception book which should include columns showing the year, month, day, hour and minute when any instrument was filed for record; the names of grantors or locators alphabetically arranged; the names of grantees; the nature of the instrument and the book and page where recorded; a concise description of the property affected; and any remarks the recorder deemed appropriate (Utah State Archives, San Juan County recorder, miscellaneous records, series 23400, Book B, p 179-180). Almost all records filed in the Gabel District recorder's reception book were filed in November 1892, when the mining district was organized, or in December of the following year.

ARRANGEMENT: The first part of the reception book contains references to claims recorded in Gabel Mining District Book 1. These entries are alphabetically grouped and thereunder are arranged chronologically according to date and time filed. The second part of the reception book contains references to claims recorded in both Book 1 and Book 2. These entries are strictly chronological by date and time filed.

RESEARCH NOTE: Another copy of the index to the first mining location notices book has been microfilmed at the beginning of this reception book (see series 24039).

RELATED RECORDS: The Gabel Mining District reception book provides a list of mining location notices recorded in MINING LOCATION NOTICES, series 24039. The district's GENERAL INDEX, series 24038, provides parallel information.

PROCESSING NOTE: The Gabel Mining District reception book was microfilmed by San Juan County in February 2001 and processed by Rosemary Cundiff in January 2002.

PREFERRED CITATION: Cite the Utah State Archives and Records Service, the creating agency name, the series title, and the series number.
