DESCRIPTION: The Beaver County recorder created a set of four record books which are labeled 'Notices of Location.' Mining notices of location provide information about the discovery and location of a mining claim, the names of locators, and dates for discovery and filing. The Beaver County recorder recorded notices of location for claims in a dozen Beaver County mining districts as well as claims in unorganized territory. He recorded the greatest number of location notices for claims in the Star and Granite Districts.

Even though these books are generally notices of location for mining claims, they also contain a hodgepodge of other records, including not only records created by the recorder's office, but also records of the county clerk and Beaver County courts. The county recorder used these books to record liens, including mechanics liens and liens on mining property. He recorded a number of additional records related to mining, including a few plat maps, notices of protest, and documents relating to the Mountain Queen Mining Company, and by-laws for the Columbia, Rising Sun, and Superior Mining Districts. He used these books for records not related to mining, including claims for water rights, notices of location for homestead land, deeds, agreements, and surveyor's certificates. These books also contain a number of marriage licenses and livestock brand registrations created by the county clerk. They contain minutes and transcripts of judgments from Beaver County justice courts, as well as one divorce decree and an estate settlement handled by the Beaver County Probate Court.

ARRANGEMENT: The volumes labeled 'Notices of Location' are chronological with the various records contained therein also chronological by date recorded.
