MARYSVALE (UTAH). [622 ]

CEMETERY RECORDS, ca. 1887-1978.
1 microfilm reel

A separate agency history is available.

DESCRIPTION: Marysvale cemetery records begin with lists of information copied from headstones in the old section of the Marysvale Cemetery and from the Howes and Thompsonville Cemeteries. A map of the Dennis Cemetery identifies the names of persons buried therein. These lists and map are followed by a death registry which provides: name of deceased, date of death, place of death, birth date and place or age at time of death, parents' names and place of birth, informant, burial date and place, and possibly other information such as occupation or name of spouse. For those persons buried in the Marysvale Cemetery, the registry also indicates a burial plot number. This registry includes many individuals who were buried in other cemeteries. The registry is followed by several plat maps of the Marysvale Cemetery.

ARRANGEMENT: The lists of names copied from the headstones are arranged in alphabetical order. The death registry which follows is arranged in chronological order by date of death.

RESEARCH NOTE: Marysvale cemetery records were compiled by local residents, Laura M. Tate Bertelsen and Lucile Barlow. No new information has been added since 1978. The book also includes newspaper articles about the Marysvale railroad depot.

RELATED RECORDS: CEMETERY PLOT MAPS, series 23950, contain plat maps of the Marysvale Cemetery. They identify the location of burial plots and name persons buried therein. Burials in the Howes Cemetery are also included in Junction CEMETERY RECORD, series 23966.

FINDING AIDS: Marysvale cemetery records contain an alphabetical index which includes both the headstone lists and the death registry. The index gives name, page number, and lot number if buried in the Marysvale Cemetery.

PROCESSING NOTE: Marysvale cemetery records were microfilmed at Southern Utah University under the direction of Utah State Archives in December 2001 and processed by Rosemary Cundiff in February 2002.

PREFERRED CITATION: Cite the Utah State Archives and Records Service, the creating agency name, the series title, and the series number.
