DESCRIPTION: The county recorder created an index to identify page numbers in Abstract Books D-D 1, and Abstract Books A-A 1, in which he entered abstracts for each block in Washington County's surveyed communities. The index also indicates which book the block was carried forward to in City (Saint George) or Abstracts: Towns 1-4.

ARRANGEMENT: The abstract index (towns) is arranged by community, and thereunder presents each plat and every block within that plat in numerical order. The index begins with Saint George, and thereafter presents all other communities and a few subdivisions in alphabetical order.

RELATED RECORDS: This index provides reference to abstract entries in Abstract Books A and A 1 in ABSTRACTS (SAINT GEORGE), series 23554 and to Abstract Books D-D 1 in ABSTRACTS (TOWNS), series 23555.

PROCESSING NOTE: The towns abstracts index was microfilmed by Utah State Archives in January 1994 and processed by Rosemary Cundiff in June 2001. Earlier copies of this index were deaccessioned in processing.
