Series 23691

WASHINGTON COUNTY (UTAH). COUNTY RECORDER [1325]

OFFICIAL AND SUBDIVISION MAPS, 1862-1973
2 microfilm reels

A separate agency history is available.

DESCRIPTION: The official and subdivision maps filed by the Washington County recorder are contained in two map books and a set of individually filed maps. The map books include survey maps for town sites, farms, fields, individual land entries and subdivisions. With a few exceptions, the filed maps are subdivision maps. All maps contain the authorizing signatures of the county surveyor and county commissioners, and for early maps, the county probate judge.

ARRANGEMENT: No order is apparent for these maps except that the maps included in the map books predate individually filed maps.

RELATED RECORDS: PLAT MAPS, series 83898 contain complete detailed maps of all of Washington County arranged by location, as well as additional or duplicate subdivision and town site survey maps.

FINDING AIDS: This series includes an alphabetical maps index which references Map Book 1, Map Book 2, and a few filed maps. Diagrams are included at the beginning of filed maps which indicate the order in which they appear on the reel.

PROCESSING NOTE: Official and subdivision maps were microfilmed by Utah State Archives in December 1973 and processed by Rosemary Cundiff in June 2001.

PREFERRED CITATION: Cite the Utah State Archives and Records Service, the creating agency name, the series title, and the series number.
