WASHINGTON COUNTY (UTAH). COUNTY RECORDER [1325]POWERS OF ATTORNEY INDEX, 1902-[ongoing]1 microfilm reel
A separate agency history is available.
DESCRIPTION: A power of attorney is a legal document which authorizes someone to execute any conveyance of real estate as an agent or attorney for the owner. Powers of attorney are valid only after they have been acknowledged, certified and recorded (Utah Code, Annotated 57-1-8). The Washington County recorder did not keep a separate book for powers of attorney, but mixed them with deeds and other land related records. However, in accordance with Utah law (Utah Code, Annotated 17-21-6), she kept an index to powers of attorney which provides the date of filing and the book and page where recorded. This index includes both the names of property owners and designated attorneys, and indicates when and if the power of attorney was revoked.
ARRANGEMENT: The county recorder kept a running index, grouping entries according to the first letter of the surname.
RELATED RECORDS: The county recorder recorded powers of attorney in the following series: MINING DEEDS, series 23669; MINING NOTICES OF LOCATION, series 81372; DEEDS, (TOQUERVILLE), series 23265; DEEDS (SAINT GEORGE), series 23286; WATER CERTIFICATES AND DEEDS, series 23251; DEEDS (SILVER REEF),series 23263 ; DEEDS (PINE VALLEY), series 23264; DEEDS (WASHINGTON), series 23262; MORTGAGES, series 82705; AGREEMENTS AND LEASES, series 84209; MISCELLANEOUS RECORDS, series 82707; and OFFICIAL RECORDS, series 7067.
