Series 23492

KANE COUNTY (UTAH). COUNTY CLERK [1479]

MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE RECORD BOOK, 1888-1901
2 microfilm reels

A separate agency history is available.

DESCRIPTION: This volume contains handwritten transcriptions of marriage certificates and licenses. The information in the records includes the names of the bride and groom, their ages, residences, the date and place of the marriage, the name of the officiating party and witnesses, and the date the record was filed by the clerk.

ARRANGEMENT: The records are numerical by certificate number. Certificate numbers are assigned chronologically based on the filing date of the record.

RESEARCH NOTE: The first transcribed license appears with certificate number eight. No prior certificates include licenses. The earliest marriage certified in this volume actually took place in December 1887 but was not recorded until January of 1888.

RELATED RECORDS: Series 23491, MARRIAGE LICENSE RECORD BOOK, contains Kane County marriage licenses for the period after this volume. Series 83800, MARRIAGE LICENSES, contains Kane County marriage licenses as well. Both series are still in the custody of the Kane County Clerk and all requests for access should be directed to that office.

FINDING AIDS: At the beginning of the volume is a name index to the brides and grooms arranged alphabetically by first letter of last name.

PROCESSING NOTE: This series was archivally processed by A. B. Schmuland in January 2001.

PREFERRED CITATION: Cite the Utah State Archives and Records Service, the creating agency name, the series title, and the series number.
