BRIGHAM CITY (UTAH). CITY SEXTON [2927
]SEXTON'S RECORD, 1860-1909.
1 microfilm reel
A separate agency history is available.
DESCRIPTION: The Brigham City sexton's record is a ledger of information about individuals buried in the Brigham City cemetery. As required by Brigham City ordinance, this information includes the name of the deceased, date and place of birth, parents' names, death date, cause of death, and burial plot identification (Brigham City Ordinances, Utah State Archives, series 3662, Book 1, p. 15).
ARRANGEMENT: No arrangement is apparent in the sexton's ledger except that individuals buried in the same plot are grouped together.
RESEARCH NOTE: Nearly all deaths recorded herein occurred between 1880 and 1909.
RELATED RECORDS: The Brigham City sexton's INTERMENT RECORDS, series 22072, were created on almost identical ledgers. Interment records duplicate most of the entries in the sexton's ledger. Interment records were reconstructed after the cemetery office burned in 1963. The sexton's ledger is apparently an original record which survived the fire.
FINDING AIDS: The sexton included an index which lists names and page numbers. It appears that the names refer to cemetery plot owners and not to deceased individuals.
PROCESSING NOTE: The Brigham City sexton's ledger was microfilmed under the direction of Utah State Archives in December 2000 and processed by Rosemary Cundiff in July 2002.
