Series 22072

BRIGHAM CITY (UTAH). SEXTON [2927]

INTERMENT RECORDS, 1850–1978
2 microfilm reels

DESCRIPTION: This series documents burials in the City Cemetery in a ledger format. Information recorded includes the name of the deceased, names of parents, name of spouse, marital status, date of death, place of death, cause of death, attending physician, location of grave, name of the sexton, and a column for remarks. Not all columns are completed for all persons. At the beginning of reel one is a brief history of the cemetery and of the cemetery superintendent/sexton's office written in 1978.

These records most likely did not exist in this format prior to 1963, but were created to replace a number of different types of records destroyed by a fire in the City Cemetery office in October of 1963.

ARRANGEMENT: Alphabetical by first letter of decedent's last name.

RESEARCH NOTE: The earliest documented burial in the City Cemetery is 1853. The few ledger entries which pre-date that burial are described as having been buried in Salt Lake City.

RELATED RECORDS: Series 22073, DEATH AND BURIAL REGISTER, includes similar records for the years of 1872 to 1884 arranged roughly chronologically by date of death. Series 84758, CEMETERY PLOT DEEDS, contains the names of the owners of the burial plots for the years 1886 through 1905, and 1963 through 1978.

PROCESSING NOTE: This series was filmed in 1978. Archival processing was completed by Arlene Schmuland in August 1999.
