Series 21977 GOVERNOR (1921-1925 : MABEY) [446]NEWSPAPERS, 1898, 1899, 19241 microfilm reel DESCRIPTION: This series contains four
newspapers. It holds two Republican Plates,
furnished by the Republican Committee; the first American paper in Manila,
Philippines, The American Soldier (1898); and a
clipping from Freedom (1899), also from Manila,
honoring the dead of the Eighth Army Corps who served in the Spanish-American
War. Governor Mabey enlisted as a private in the Utah National Guard at the
outbreak of the Spanish-American War and was later cited for gallantry. These
newspapers document his obvious interest in the war and the happenings of the
Republican Party.
ARRANGEMENT: This series is alphabetical by
newspaper name. However, filming was done out of order with Freedom preceding American
Soldier.
PROCESSING NOTE: This series is scheduled
following the Utah State General Retention Schedule. The series will be
microfilmed because of the poor condition of the papers and the difficultly
presented in preserving them . This series was processed by Wendy Checketts in
1999 and updated following filming in 2002.
