DESCRIPTION: The Governor has the power to appoint members to various State boards and commissions; this series contains resumes, applications, appointment notices, and correspondence pertaining to those appointments, preserved by Governor Rampton and his staff. Included in this series are appointment notices from the administrations of Governors Lee and Clyde, as well as from Governor Rampton's administration. This series also contains some minutes of council meetings and other policy materials relating to each council.

ARRANGEMENT: This series is arranged alphabetically by name of committee, council, or board, thereunder chronologically by year or multiple year grouping. The exceptions to this arrangement are the first three folders of Box 1 which are appointment notices arranged chronologically by year, as well as the fourth folder of Box 1 which contains general materials relating to this series. Undated materials have been kept in the order in which they were found.

RELATED RECORDS: In many cases, the boards and councils listed below are the precursors to the state agencies found in Series 14250, STATE AGENCY CORRESPONDENCE. In addition, several of the councils listed below were created by or pertain to certain legislative bills; those particular bills may be found in Series 17586, LEGISLATIVE BILL FILES. Governor Clyde's appointment files are in Series 195, GOVERNMENT APPOINTMENT NOTICES. The Lieutenant Governor's office is the final repository for official copies of many appointments, cf. Series 9402, POLITICAL APPOINTMENT RECORDS. Appointees may also have been required to file OATHS OF OFFICE, Series 17170.

PROCESSING NOTE: This series was microfilmed in 2002 and the hard copy kept because of the intrinsic value of the papers. It was processed by Kira Robertson in February 2001 and scheduled in accordance with the Utah State Agency General Retention Schedule.
