Series 20793

GOVERNOR (1933-1941 : BLOOD) [446]

EXTRADITION CASE FILES, 1933-1938.
.25 cu. ft. and 1 microfilm reel

A separate agency history is available.

DESCRIPTION: This series consists of correspondence, requisitions and court documents relating to the extradition of criminals from other states to Utah for crimes committed in Utah. Requests for the extradition of fugitives originated at the local level usually from county attorneys, district courts, justices of the peace, or police officials. In response to local level requests, the governor's office issued a formal extradition document. The series contains six extradition case files and one file concerning the murder of Edmund D. Hines. The extradition case files typically include letters to Governor Blood regarding the extradition, arrest warrants, affidavits of complaint and other legal documents. The main focus of the records pertaining to Mr. Hines is not on extradition. The file contains correspondence, court records, a hearing transcript, and inquiries about reward money.

ARRANGEMENT: This series is arranged alphabetically by criminal or victim's name.

RELATED RECORDS: Series 348, CRIMINAL EXTRADITIONS RECORDS, contain extradition records beginning in 1881 and continuing. Series 306, CRIMINAL REQUISITIONS REGISTER, contains requisitions for extradition.

PROCESSING NOTE: These records were microfilmed in 2002 to protect the original documents. This series was processed by Wendy Checketts, May 2000.
