DESCRIPTION: This series contains reports, correspondence, project descriptions, and other various forms of records pertaining to federal and state programs instituted to relieve the effects of the Depression. Many of the federal programs devised to aid the poor were carried out at the state level as this series exhibits. The series, in its entirety, discloses the governmental methods used to try and ease the hardships of the Depression. It contains information on multiple projects (e.g. buildings, dams, roads, etc.) around the state. These projects were used to generate income and work for the Utah citizens suffering from financial loss. The Depression left lasting mental and physical changes to the United States; some of the programs created during that time are still in existence today.

ARRANGEMENT: The arrangement is alphabetically by subject thereunder chronologically. Subjects are further broken down alphabetically within the chronological arrangement. For example, the C.C.C. minutes come before the reports for the year.

RELATED RECORDS: Series 14207, STATE AGENCIES CORRESPONDENCE, holds information addressing relief programs for poverty-stricken citizens. Series 186, CORRESPONDENCE, contains correspondence concerning the relief programs and letters from individuals asking for relief. Series 189, DEER CREEK AND SALT LAKE AQUEDUCT PROJECT FILES, contains information on Deer Creek Reservoir which was a Public Works program. The researcher may also wish to consult records created by the state's Emergency Relief Administration, agency 343.

PROCESSING NOTE: Because of the importance of original order in maintaining context, the letters were left as found. I did re-file folders in this series from the general correspondence when they strictly contained information on relief programs. This series was microfilmed and the originals kept because of their inherent intrinsic value. It was processed by Wendy Checketts, March 2000 and scheduled with the Utah State Agency General Retention Schedule. The series was microfilmed and the container list updated in 2002.
