DESCRIPTION: This series provides access to the judgment dockets produced by the Third District Court in and for Salt Lake County. They give plaintiff name, defendant name, and the page number where a judgment log can be found in the docket books.

ARRANGEMENT: The indexes are chronological by the record book indexed. Entries are alphabetical by initial letter or two of plaintiff surname. If there was insufficient space allocated under the letters, entries are continued on blank pages toward the end of the volume.

RELATED RECORDS: This series indexes Series 1671, CIVIL JUDGMENT DOCKETS.

CUSTODY HISTORY: This series was maintained for the court by the Salt Lake County Clerk, ex-officio clerk of court, with periodic transfers to the Archives beginning January 24, 1968.

PROCESSING NOTE: Judgment Docket Indexes since 1982 have had a permanent retention. It was decided to change the format of the Judgment Dockets and their corresponding indexes to microfilm due to preservation problems with the original format (water damage, excessive dirt, brittle paper, and broken bindings) and the fact that the records themselves have no intrinsic value. Processing of this series was begun by Kenneth R. Williams in April of 1994 and microfilmed in July of 1994. Processing was completed by A. C. Cone in January 2003.

GAPS IN THE SERIES: Any indexes to Dockets 20, 28, and 33 are missing, and the location of any docket indexes after 1945 is unknown.
